Friedrich Schiller University
March 20-23, 2005
The Focus on Microscopy 2005 conference and exhibition will take place in Jena, Germany, March 20-23, as the next in a series of unique interdisciplinary meetings on advanced multidimensional light microscopy and image processing. Hosted by the Friedrich Schiller University and the Fraunhofer Institute of Biomedical Technology (IBMT), the conference venue is located on the University campus in the center of Jena.
In 2005 it will be 100 years ago that Ernst Abbe died in Jena. In recognition of his great contributions to modern microscopy it is most appropriate that the conference Focus on Microscopy 2005 will take place in that city. The conference will start on Sunday March 20 at 15:00h with a special Ernst Abbe symposium which is sponsored by Carl Zeiss Jena. This symposium takes place in the historical Volkshaus building in Jena which has been designed by Abbe himself.
Microscopic imaging techniques like confocal, multiphoton excitation or wide-field deconvolution have become indispensable tools for the study of biological complexities and dynamics. Image analysis, visualization and data management are key to process the vast amount of information generated. The most recent developments of these technologies will be covered together with their practical applications in biomedical sciences. This year there will be special attention to he use of laser light as a active tool at sub-micrometer length scales for cell biology, nanobiotechnology and medicine.
For the Locations please note: The Abbe symposion on Sunday will take place in the Volkshaus on the Carl Zeiss platz. The sessions on Monday and later will take place in the buildings of the Jena University, Campus Ernst-Abbe-Platz. Both locations are in the centre of Jena, see map of Jena.
